Wednesday's Word of Encouragement: PARAMOUNT

Praying for others is important, but washing oneself first is - paramount.
: superior to all others : supreme
  • a matter of paramount importance
“That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.”
~Eph. 5:26
Recently, our daughter hurt her knee.  She needed to wrap it up, ice it down, and elevate it.
To help her rest in a proper position for healing she slept on our couch.  I snuggled up
next to her in our oversized chair - being available to her for whatever she needed.  The
next thing I knew my eyes opened to morning sunlight shining through our living room
curtains. As I turned my head I felt a hoop earring press into my shoulder.  Looking
down I realized I had slept in my nice outfit from the day before.
It was a long day in my two day clothes.  Once I sat up from that chair the day went
quickly.  School. Work. Cleaning. Phone Calls. Nursing my daughter. Lunch. Dinner.
Walking through my bathroom I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror.  I realized
that tonight I should sleep in PJs.
Not only did my clothes need a good washing but so did I.  The next morning, after
another short sleep - nursing our daughter from the living room - I recognized the
importance of being washed clean.  That morning I spent quality time with God. His
Word washed away tiredness, irritability, fatigue, and broken focus. His Word revealed a paramount- truth - refreshing oneself helps serve others better.  A good washing
refreshes you from the inside out.
